Executive Vice President’s Award for Excellence in Overall  Performance: May be presented by the Executive Vice President and  Chief Financial Officer for Business, Finance and Administrative Services  or a designee. Awarded to a DCSES employee:

  • That performs an act or series of acts of exceptional achievement to the department and the University, or
  • Whose behavior and work is characterized by extraordinary dedication and commitment to the division and/or department’s mission and vision, role and organizational values, or
  • That exhibits consistent efforts in the furtherance of developing collaborative and cooperative campus-wide approaches towards establishing a safe and secure campus, or
  • Engages in positive behaviors in each of the areas of DCSES responsibility (law enforcement, safety and security, customer service, risk management and reduction, transportation and emergency management), looks for opportunities to engage in self­ initiated work in each area, and acts as a role model for others in this category.

Senior Vice President’s Award for Distinguished Performance Award: Presented by the Senior Vice President and Chief Law Enforcement Officer and awarded to that DCSES employee who:

  • Demonstrates consistent and extraordinary reliability that is so notable as to elevate the employee and set them apart from other departmental members, and/or
  • Through their overall performance, demonstrates a willingness to embrace and further the educational mission of the University in the context of ensuring a safe and secure environment, customer service, risk management and reduction, transportation and emergency management, and/or
  • Performance is exemplified by a positive attitude and a willingness to become involved and assume additional responsibilities to provide safety, security, customer service, risk management and reduction, transportation and emergency management service to the University community, and/or
  • The performance must be above and beyond the normal call of duty and so notable as to set the individual apart from their coworkers, and/or including demonstrated leadership, and/or
  • The recipient must have demonstrated above average productivity and task proficiency, and/or
  • The recipient developed and built sustained relationships with community members through proactive interactions, inclusion and community service, and/or
  • Embraces and consistently demonstrates a commitment to DCSES organizational values.

Chiefs Award for Heroism: Presented by the Chief of Public Safety

  • This award may be awarded to an officer who performs an act of personal bravery and heroism in the face of personal injury and risk of life.
  • The recipient must have demonstrated outstanding gallantry, conspicuous action, and their actions should have served to bring credit upon themselves, the department, and the University.
  • The particular act or acts must have been so exceptionally outstanding as to set them apart from their fellow officers.

Major Grant Williams Memorial Scholarship: Presented by the Senior Vice  President and Chief Law Enforcement Officer

  • Awarded to an outstanding Syracuse University student who demonstrates the characteristics of the late Major Williams who was known for integrity, optimism, and concern for others.

Community Member Recognition Award: Presented by the Senior Vice  President and Chief Law Enforcement Officer

  • Awarded to an external department or individual who has provided support to any department within the Division of Campus Safety and Emergency Services, strengthening the partnership that exists between the division and the community.

Meritorious Performance Award: Presented  by the  Senior Vice  President and Chief Law Enforcement Officer

  • This award may be awarded to a DCSES employee who deserves recognition for performing an extremely noteworthy act, or series of The performance must be above and beyond the call of duty and of such weight and importance as to merit recognition for service.
  • The performance, while not meeting the criteria for the Chiefs’ Award for Heroism, must be exceptionally outstanding and must nevertheless have been performed with marked distinction and support the Division’s role and organizational values.

Outstanding Communications Officer Award: Presented by the Chief of Public Safety

  • This award may be presented to a ECC worker of any rank who deserves recognition for performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding performance above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  • Because of that service, have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of either a serious incident, or on the overall performance of the Emergency Communications Center’s service to the Department and/or community, while supporting the Department’s role and organizational values.

Outstanding Community Services Officer Award: Presented by the Chief of Public Safety

  • This award may be presented to a CSO who deserves recognition for performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding performance above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  • Because of that service, have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of a serious incident, or on the overall performance or service to the Department and or community, while supporting the Department’s role and organizational values.

Outstanding Students for Community Safety Employee Award: Presented by the Chief of Public Safety

  • This award may be presented to a SCS worker of any rank who deserves recognition for performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding performance above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  • Because of that service, have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of a serious incident, or on the overall performance or service to the Department and or community, while supporting the Department’s role and organizational values.

Outstanding Peace Officer Award: Presented by the Chief of Public Safety

  • This award may be presented to a peace officer of any rank who deserves recognition for performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding performance above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  • Because of that service, have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of a serious incident, or on the overall performance or service to the Department and or community, while supporting the Department’s role and organizational values.

Outstanding Fire/Life Safety Officer Award: Presented by the Chief of Public Safety

  • This award may be presented to a Fire/Life Safety employee who deserves recognition for performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding performance above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  • Because of that service, have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of a serious incident, or on the overall performance or service to the Department and or community, while supporting the Department’s role and organizational values.

Grant Williams Excellence in Service Award: Presented by the Senior Vice President

  • This award is intended to recognize a DCSES employee for their individual efforts in establishing, promoting, and encouraging community policing, community service, risk prevention, and/or crime prevention efforts on campus and in the neighboring community as well as providing sustained service to a community member/s that helps improve the quality of life and experience at SU.
  • The member has developed and built sustained relationships with the community member/s through proactive interaction, inclusion, community service and/or community policing.
  • Is a fully committed champion of the DCSES service philosophy and engages in positive behaviors in service, looks for opportunities to engage in self-initiated work in service,  and acts as a role model for others in this service.
  • Encourages others in the DCSES service philosophy, engages in efforts to promote this service throughout the organization, and where appropriate holds others accountable to our service philosophy.

Excellence in Law Enforcement Award: Presented by the Senior Vice President to a DPS Employee who:

  • Engages in individual efforts in establishing, promoting, and encouraging law enforcement and/or investigative efforts on campus and in the neighboring community focused on keeping the peace, protecting life and property, reducing crime and enforcing laws.
  • Is a fully committed champion of the DPS law enforcement philosophy and engages in positive behaviors in law enforcement, looks for opportunities to engage in self-initiated work in law enforcement, and/or investigations, and acts as a role model for others in these areas.
  • Encourages others in our law enforcement philosophy, engages in efforts to promote excellent law enforcement and/or investigations techniques throughout the organization, and where appropriate holds others accountable to this category.

Excellence in Safety and Security Award: Presented by the Senior Vice President to a DCSES employee who:

  • Engages in individual efforts in establishing, promoting, and encouraging safety and security, on campus and in the neighboring community, makes efforts in protecting and security of university property from damage or loss and proactively identifies and reports safety and/or environmental hazards.
  • Is a fully committed champion of the DCSES safety and security philosophy and engages in positive behaviors in safety, security, customer service, risk management and reduction, reliable transportation and emergency response to the University community, looks for opportunities to engage in self-initiated work in these areas, and acts as a role model for others in these areas.
  • Encourages others, promotes excellence and utilizes skills and techniques to further the division’s safety and security philosophy, customer service, risk management and reduction, reliable transportation and emergency response and where appropriate holds others accountable to this category.

Division of Campus Safety and Emergency Services Community Member Recognition Award: Presented by the Senior Vice President and Chief Law Enforcement Officer

  • Presented to an individual from outside the division and awarded to a person or department who has provided support to any department within the Division of Campus Safety and Emergency Services.
  • This individual or department will have been instrumental in strengthening the partnerships that exist between the division and the community.

Outstanding Parking Services Employee Award: Presented by the Director of Parking and Transit Services

  • This award may be presented to a Parking Services employee who deserves recognition for performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding performance above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  • Because of that service, have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of a serious incident, or on the overall performance or service to the Department and/or community, while supporting the Department’s role and organizational values.

Outstanding Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance Employee Award: Presented by the Director of Risk Management and Chief Regulatory Compliance officer

  • This award may be presented to a Risk Management  and Regulatory Compliance employee who deserves recognition for performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding  performance above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  • Because of that service, have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of a serious incident, or on the overall performance or service to the Department and or community, while supporting the Department’s role and organizational values.

Outstanding Environmental Health & Safety Services Employee Award: Presented by the Director of Environmental Health and Safety Services

  • This award may be presented to an Environmental Health & Safety Services employee who deserves recognition for  performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding performance above and beyond the expectations for their position and that  because of that service  have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of a serious incident, or on the overall performance or service to the Department and or community, while supporting the Department’s role and organizational values.

Outstanding DCSES Administrative and Technical Services Employee Award: Presented by the DCSES Director of Administration

  • This award may be presented to a DCSES Administrative employee who deserves recognition for performing either an extremely noteworthy single act, or who has demonstrated a lengthy period of outstanding performance above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  • Because of that service, have a demonstrated impact on the successful handling of a serious incident, or on the overall performance or service to the Division and/or community, while supporting the Division’s role and organizational values.

Division of Campus Safety and Emergency Services Spirit of Justice Award: Presented by the Senior Vice President and Chief Law Enforcement Officer

  • This award is intended to recognize a divisional member for their unique individual efforts in promoting the community service, community engagement and inclusion mission by supporting or promoting, as a volunteer, a community not-for-profit agency, or other recognized community group benefiting a group of people, an agency or a person by their direct service, fund raising and/or other selfless acts to the benefit of those needing assistance.
